Taste - Cover Story: 10 Pizzas with the lot

From wood-fired gourmet delights to party-sized specials, Simon Wilkinson tracks down our best slices of life.

Slap bang in the middle of Adelaide's Italian suburban heartland, this unassuming shopfront delivers pizzas to keep the locals dreaming of home. Crusts are thin, crisp without being crunchy, with just a hint of smoke from that wood-fired oven. All the toppings are first rate, from plump kalamatas to the San Jose smallgoods used - even on the ham and pineapple.

Traditionalists will head for the "Specialli" or margherita but the "Salty Porco" with boccancini, fresh tomato and prosciutto is another winner.

The Cherry Ripe pizza? Well you'll have to try that for yourself. Fire & Stone has limited seating and is fully licensed but also has takeaway and delivery ($4 charge).
